As a followup to my post about meeting with a personal trainer, I thought I would share some ideas for upper body workouts you can do at the gym to help meet your health and fitness goals.
The images below demonstrate what muscles groups are used when doing various weight lifting exercises.
If you are new to lifting weights, I would start out with exercises like these that work large muscle groups (or multiple muscle groups at once), that way you are maximizing your workouts and getting used to strengthening these larger muscles.
Once you start to get the hang of this, you can then mix it up a bit by working smaller, more targeted muscle groups.
But remember, let your muscles heal for 3 whole days after working them. Otherwise you are doing damage faster than your muscles can repair themselves.
