Cooking Basics 101: Gluten Free and Organic Tricolor Quinoa!

Hello and welcome everyone to another episode of Cooking with Fey! Today I will show you how to make some delicious tricolor quinoa. Quinoa is gluten free and full of delicious vitamins and minerals, so it is a perfect addition to any diet.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of organic quinoa
  • 2 cups of filtered water

Simply place these ingredients into a cooking pot and bring to a boil. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.

And you’re done! It’s that easy to make.

Excerpt from my book: What is Atrial Fibrillation?

Hello everyone and welcome to a post from my new series about the book I am writing! This excerpt is from the section I’m currently working on about describing what Atrial Fibrillation is in terms of a medical condition. To learn more, read on.

What is Atrial Fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) or skipped heart beats that can lead to a whole host of terrifying health concerns such as: blood clots, stroke or even heart failure. In the United States alone there are at least 2.7 million people living with this health condition.

Medically speaking, during an atrial fibrillation episode, the upper chambers of the heart beat at an irregular rhythm instead of beating in a normal rhythmic patten to move blood into the lower chambers of the heart. Think of it as electrical misfires.

How do you know if you have AFib? Some people, myself included, describe the experience as skipped heart beats or a sudden racing heart rate that leaves them gasping for air or feeling like they were having a heart attack. That’s what happened during my first AFib episode. My heart rate reached 190 beats per minute (an average heart rate is around 60-90 beats a minute), then it started randomly skipping beats. The tension in my chest was so unbearable it became difficult to breathe and I honestly thought it was a heart attack.

Summer Time Cooking: 3 Ingredient Indian Cucumber Raita

Hello and welcome everyone to another edition of Cooking with Fey. Summer is here, and so are those warm temperatures. Our house doesn’t have air conditioning, so I wanted to make something that wouldn’t make the house any hotter than it already is.

With that in mind I thought I would share with you how to make a simple Indian Cucumber Raita. This recipe only has three ingredients, and is ready in less than 10 minutes.

To make this dish you will need:

  • 32 oz of fat free Greek Yogurt
  • 1 large organic cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup golden raisins
  • (Optional) Salt and Pepper to taste

Simply pop all ingredients in a large bowl and enjoy! It’s really that easy.

My Life

I’m Writing A Book!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the start of a new series for my blog. I’ve decided to write a book about my heart condition from a medical and personal trainer standpoint, as there doesn’t seem to be much literature out there that is easy to find and digest.

This idea was born when I took a trip to my local bookstore to do some research on my heart condition (you can never have enough information when you suffer from a medical condition), and was dismayed at how little information the heart health section contained. There were several books that covered AFib, the condition I live with, but they were tiny sections within larger texts on general heart conditions or general heart health issues.

Upon seeing this I was inspired to write a simple guide to understanding and living with this health concern. Since I’m not a doctor, I can only reference the works of others in terms of medical treatments and common symptoms. However, as a personal trainer, I can create dietary and exercise plans for this health condition that I found most books to me lacking.

Hello and welcome everyone to another episode of Fey Fitness. The votes are in! And the self defense series won out over fitness videos! So now we will be exploring men’s self defense in our new series.

For this first video I wanted to stick with our theme of preventative measures a person can take to keep themselves as safe as possible, so I am reviewing some common self defense tools that are most commonly found in stores or online. These items would be perfect for protecting yourself against an attack and are a great preventative measure to keep handy.
