What I’m eating this week: June 11th, 2017

Hello and welcome everyone to another edition of Cooking with Fey. Today I thought I would share with you all what I got from the local Asian grocery store while I was out earlier. These items will mainly be lunches and dinners, and I got a little extra than normal because I have a friend coming over for dinner this week.


As always, please let me know if there are foods you’d like to see me try or cook on this channel, this series is meant to inspire you to eat better and make healthier food choices, so anyway that I can help works for me.

Natsu has been enjoying all this spring rain.

Rain means mom doesn’t want to go out of the house as much. So Natsu has been enjoying more snuggle time this spring since I tend to spend all of my free time with her when I’m in the house. However, she does get cranky when I stop petting her to take pictures.

At first I was so happy I was utterly speechless- I was just so humbled that all words abandoned me. Then, they all came flooding back at once and I found myself babbling without stop.

The Purple Almond is a wonderful blog all about how food can help cure disease. Which is something I wholeheartedly believe in! The Purple Almond started her blog in 2015, and had this to say about why she chose such an unusual name for her blog:
“I realize that the name Purple Almond is a bit different, and you may wonder why I chose it. The symbolism of the 2 words together summed up what food means to me. Purple/violet, symbolizes, among other things, healing of mind, body and spirit, higher consciousness and awareness of self. Almonds and Almond trees are sometimes known as ‘the tree of life’ and symbolize light and awakening. How did I my blog start…
My blog was inspired after a four year journey with atrial fibrillation. The first year was the absolute worst- I had been training for my very first marathon when this all started. So, needless to say, my life was completely turned upside down. I went from running 8 miles a day, to wheezing and gasping for breath after walking 60 feet. Running had been my life, and I suddenly found myself with dozens of dietary restrictions and without the activity I loved most in life.

But fret not, in the second year I started trying to reclaim my joy, and began taking a more active interest in my health. The rest, is history!

So I’d like this site to be an outlet for me to share what I’ve learned these past years about living a healthy lifestyle, diet, cooking, and fitness.

The blogger community has been so wonderfully supportive and positive about my young site. I’ve received such great feedback that I constantly feel so blessed to be a part of this community.

Let’s see, my top two tips for bloggers….
Tip #1: Be consistent. Have you ever found an amazing YouTube channel or blog and been excited about each and every new post they publish? Well, your audience feels that way about your blog! Don’t leave people hanging by sporadically publishing posts. Get on a schedule and stick with it. This will also make life easier for you, because then you can start to plan your posts in advance and ideas start popping up as your brain remembers that you are getting closer to your designated blogging day.
Tip #2: Stick with it! With every new blog there is a period where you may find yourself posting all this great content, but no one has discovered you yet. Don’t fret, things will change, but sometimes it just takes time. Just keep doing what you have been- consistently posting great content. People will eventually start discovering how awesome you are and following you. It’s just a process- but don’t worry, I believe in you!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the final day of 2016!

For me, this past year just flew by, and in a way I’m sad to see it go. I had some very happy moments in 2016 (things like getting my pet rabbit, getting engaged, travelling to Tokyo for the first time, starting my YouTube channel and website, etc…) so in that respect I feel like I need more time to reflect upon the good things that happened this year.

However, I’m also excited to see what 2017 brings. A new year always holds a lot of hope and excitement- so I’m excited to see what the new year holds for my website and channel. My goal is to really ramp up my efforts to bring you high quality videos that are both fun and informative. So if you have any ideas on how I can create an experience that would be more engaging, please let me know!

My Life

So I finally took the leap!

Hello and welcome everyone!

This is the very first blog post on my very first website- so needless to say, I am rather excited!

I decided to make this page after years of conversations with my best friend. About four years ago I was given a death sentence (not really, but at the time it felt like one). I was a happy lady going to grad school, working as a marketing guru for a small publishing company, and training for my first marathon. I loved running! I may not have been the fastest lady on the track, but boy did it bring me joy. Life was great. I was one of those people who looked forward to getting up in the morning so I could start my day.

Unfortunately, the universe had other ideas. I remember the first “episode” like it happened yesterday. I had just got into bed to go to sleep for the night when I suddenly started to get this terrible pain in my chest. It felt like my heart was going to explode.The tension inside my chest cavity was the most painful thing I’d ever encountered before- worse than broken bones or any other injury I’d ever had. I could feel my heart skipping beats, then racing to try and make up for lost time.

But I was young and dumb, I couldn’t imagine a scenario where a young woman such as myself would have heart issues- so I waited a whole week before going to see a doctor.

Fast forward three months and one terrible diagnosis later, I was a mess. The cardiologist who discovered my condition had me on strong medications and strict dietary and fitness orders. Basically, I couldn’t eat any sugar or caffeine (which had been primary food groups for me before this mess started) and the only “fitness” I could engage in was very easy yoga poses. The things I used to take for granted were suddenly stripped away from me and I felt like I didn’t have a safety net.
It was all so much so suddenly. I found myself depressed and feeling more than a little lost.

However, I was blessed to have a wonderful friend who held my hand and stayed with me during this dark time. She is my guardian angel who stuck by my side during all the ups and down. She was my life jacket during stormy seas. Really, I adore her and can’t say enough about her.

But during the second year I was able to start thinking about taking my life back and enjoying being alive again. Over the years I’ve been to a host of different health specialists, and each one has helped guide me towards a better state of being. They each gave me so much knowledge, and I hope to share those resources with you in the coming months. Throughout this process my friend was there to talk to and brainstorm about the future. She’s been my biggest cheerleader, and is the one who encouraged me to make a space to share my lessons with others.

And here we are, reading this blog post!
